Backstitching is a sewing technique where you move backward to fill the gap of the previous stitch, creating a continuous unbroken line.
We strengthen the work with these evening conversations by backstitching the experience of the day.
Backstitching builds up your inner problem solving dialogue.
What went well? What do we need to do different? What's our plan?
I had the greatest privilege of sitting at the feet of Rowan and Sarita at the Midwifery intensive this November. It has created a shift in me, that I have been longing for, for a really long time.
Having the opportunity to attend this training was an answer to many prayers, and I am so grateful the stars aligned when they did.
Going in to this I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. I was a bit nervous, and slightly guarded being a room full of Midwives.
The first night cracked me open, and I knew that if I wanted to gain the most from this experience, I needed to be completely raw and vulnerable- unashamed of my journey and how I got here.
I felt so seen, heard, and respected throughout the 6 days of sitting with these women. But I think what touched me the most is that I felt safe… to ask questions, and to be curious, without being criticized or judged. I could be taught without feeling incompetent, or uneducated. I kept thinking “these women really just want to share all the golden nuggets with us. They truly want us to succeed.” I was so hungry for more information, more learning, more conversation, and more story telling… (still am btw)
For so long I have doubted myself in this work, and have had really profound and deep questions on my heart. Constantly asking myself if I am doing this the “right” way.
However, walking away from this experience I have felt so much healing happening inside of me, and it wasn’t just the endless wisdom and knowledge from these women, what impacted me the most was being truly seen, and the feeling of belonging- that feeling is unmatched.
My heart is so full, and I miss being in the same space as these incredibly powerful women.
Thank you Rowan and Sarita for the work you are doing and revolutionizing midwives. Y’all are fierce AF, and you are my people for life
